Highlanders slumped to their four straight defeat this afternoon when they were beaten by Harare City.
It was Amini Soma Phiri and Cosmas Zulu’s first game in charge since taking over from Bongani Mafu . Phiri had stated before the game that he was targeting 27 points from the last nine games.
Harare City settled early and were leading as soon as the 3rd minute. Talent Chawapiwa took advantage of the Highlanders’ failure to deal with a corner from William Manondo
Harare City continue to come forward after their opener and seven minute later Arnold Chiveya narrowly missed the target with a long range effort.
In the 13th minute Manondo blew a chance to put his team two up when he skied Chawapiwa’s delightful cross.
The first half saw Harare City dominate Highlanders but failing to convert their chances.Highlanders did however get a good chance to equalise but King Nadolo blasted over the from inside the box after a Gabriel Nyoni cross.
Halftime came with Harare City leading 1-0 and in control.
Highlanders produced a better performance in the second half but could not score. Gabriel Nyoni blew a great chance in the 65th minute after he took too many touches and was eventually blocked with the goal at his mercy.
Fifteen minutes from Highlanders got a freekick inside the box after Harare City keeper Tafadzwa Dube was penalised for holding onto the ball for too long. But Obadiah Tarumbwa blasted his effort over the bar in what was the last real chance of the game.
