Bayern Munich eliminated Arsenal from the Champions League while Atletico Madrid also advanced to the next stage after beating AC Milan.
The Gunners put on a good display to draw 1-1 with the European Champions by the damage had been done in the first leg where they had lost 3-1.
The two teams went into the half-time break at 0-0. In the second half Bastian Schweinsteiger gave Bayern the lead and moments later Arsenal hit back with Lukas Podolski shooting high into the net to level.
The goal increased the tempo of the game and resulted in Arsenal pressuring Bayern Munich for some time by Pep Gurdiola’s men soon regained control of the game.
Thomas Muller had a late penalty saved by Fabianski after Robben went down in the box, but Bayern went on to win 3-1 on aggregate and book their quarterfinal place.
In the other game of the night Diego Costa lead Atletico Madrid to victory over AC Milan,the Spanish international scored a brace as they won 4-1.
Atletico Madrid volleyed in Koke’s cross after two minutes. Kaka’s header pulled one back but Arda Turan scored with a deflected effort.
Raul Garcia headed in a third before Costa found the bottom corner with five minutes left.
