Derby County coach Paul Warne has praised Tawanda Chirewa’s impact following his second half introduction in the game against West Brom in the Championship on Boxing Day.

The appearance marked Chirewa’s return to the first team action after a two-month spell on the sidelines due to a thigh injury.

He was subbed on in the 71st minute as Derby won the match 2-1.

Reflecting on the Warriors international’s return, Warne said:

“We only had three central midfielders fit today, so we had to shuffle the pack.

“Tawanda Chirewa came on and did well as well. I’m really proud of the lads.

“I make no secret of the fact that I gave them Christmas Day off because I trust my players. They’re brilliant people and they’ve repaid everyone here today with a real hearty performance.”
