Knowledge Musona capped his first game as Warriors skipper with a well-taken hat-trick as Zimbabwe got their AFCON 2019 qualifiers campaign to a great start with a 3-0 win over Liberia at the National Sports Stadium this afternoon.
Zimbabwe dominated the match from the kick-off and it was Thabani Kamusoko almost got the opener in the 7th minute with his shot.
Zimbabwe had called for a penalty waved away in the 10th minute after a Liberia defender had handled in the box.
Going forward Ndoro and Musona looked lively but failed to bury their chances as Zimbabwe continued to press.
However, in the 24th minute Musona thrust the Warriors into the lead when he beat the offside trap before slotting in.
Musona continued to terrorise the Liberian defence with swift movement and skill while Ndoro should have added to the tally in the first half.
In the 40th minute, Kamusoko went even closer when he struck the crossbar with the goalkeeper a beaten man.
Halftime came with the Warriors leading 1-0. It took the Warriors four minutes of the restart to double the lead when Kuda Mahachi took the ball just after the half line made a run before crossing to Musona who scored.
With enterprising play and delightful passes being exchanged Zimbabwe continued to press keeping fans on their feet as they enjoyed each moment of play.
In the 63rd minute, Musona secured his hat-trick with Partson Jaure providing the cross for a fine tap in.
Zimbabwe could have added more goals with Musona striking the crossbar while Kamusoko, Karuru and Evans Rusike all came close as the Warriors registered a comprehensive win.
The result sees Zimbabwe move to the top of the Group after DRC beat Congo 3-1 on Saturday.
