The Zimbabwe national team will use an alternative unbranded kit for their AFCON group B clash with Algeria this evening after kit supplied by Mafro failed to reach the squad in time.
The Singapore based sportswear company had a last minute deal with ZIFA to supply kit for the Warriors AFCON campaign after attempts to get deals with other brands failed to materialise in time.
“The kit was supposed to have been delivered a few days ago, but Mafro Sports faced logistical challenges in transporting it to Libreville in time for today’s match stated ZIFA communications manager Xolisani Gwesela.
Consequently, we are going to use an alternative kit which has already been approved by the Confederation of African Football,” said Gwesela.
Mafro Sports has already provided the national team with training kit which is being used by the Warriors in Gabon together with the alternative one added Gwesela.
The situation is bit of an embarrassing one for the association which terminated a deal with JOMA late last year.
Meanwhile despite the kit situation Gwesela said the mood in camp is high and the spirit is superb. ‘ We have a clean bill of health and there are no injuries in camp.
‘Everyone is happy here and is prepared to bring glory to the football loving nation of Zimbabwe,” said Gwesela.
