ZIFA vice president Omega Sibanda has expressed concern with poor officiating in the country after witnessing FC Platinum beat Chicken Inn 1-0.
The match was marred by questionable officiating which saw the main referee Thomas Massar turn down two big penalty decisions against Chicken Inn.
With 15 minutes till full-time Elvis Moyo handled in the box and the assistant referee signalled the incident to Massar who instead gave a free kick saying the incident had happened outside the box despite his colleague being in a better position. Gift Bello also appeared to handle during the game only for play to be waived on.
The decision infuriated Chicken Inn leading to a stoppage in play as head coach Rahman Gumbo registered his displeasure. There were ugly scenes after the game as fans wanted to deal Massar and he needed riot police protection.
Speaking to Sunday News after the game Sibanda said, “We don’t want scenarios where match officials decide the result of a game.
“As Zifa we will descend hard on such match officials so that they to do the right job. This was a high profile match which needed an experienced referee, such bad refereeing does not promote the growth of the game added Sibanda.
