Highlanders got the city bragging rights as they advanced to the semi-finals of the ZNA Charity Shield when they dismissed rivals Chicken Inn 4-2 on penalties
The match that was played at Babourfields Stadium had ended 1-1 in regulation time.
Veteran striker Obadiah Tarumbwa drew first blood for Gamecocks in the 44th minute before Bosso’s hard running Bruce Kangwa levelled the matters in the 74th minute courtesy of a ferocious shot that beat Pride Zendera, who was in goals for Chicken Inn, all systems out.
Chicken Inn dominated the first half before Highlanders upped their tempo in the second stanza.
After the breather Bosso played some purposeful football with Kangwa, Knox Mutizwa, substitutes Ralph Matema and Prince Dube combining well upfront.
Young King Nadolo could have made two for Bosso in the 55th minute but his thunderbolt missed the target by a whisker.
In the 78th minute Chicken Inn’s Mitchel Katsvairo, a Mamelodi Sundowns target, watched in disbelief when his close range effort went for the birds.
Bosso players took turns to miss glorious chances the chief culprits being Kangwa and Mutizwa.
After the two teams had failed to find a winning goal, they headed for straight penalty shootout that saw Bosso goalie Ariel Sibanda emerge as a Babourfields hero.
Sibanda saved Guide Goddard and Pyshwell Madhazi shotouts.Brian Juru and Katsvairo converted Chicken Inn’s spot kicks. Kangwa, Mutizwa, Rahman Kutsanzira and Eric Mudzingwa were all on target for Highlanders.
