The Premier Soccer League has officially backed Twine Phiri as their chairman despite ZIFA declaring that fresh elections had to be held to replace him.
Earlier in the week ZIFA president Philip Chiyangwa after his first board meeting had stated that changes at CAPS United meant that Phiri could no longer represent the PSL and elections needed to be held and a new name forwarded.
However Phiri hit back saying only the Premier League clubs could revoke his mandate and now the league has officially backed him.
A statement from the PSL read “The Premier Soccer League would like to advise all its stakeholders that Twine Phiri will continue to represent it as its chairman. We acknowledge receipt of a letter from Zifa seeking confirmation of Phiri’s position. We will be sending a letter to Zifa confirming the above.
